The NFL Hometown Huddle is a league-wide day of service and play each fall where the Panthers work with the United Way to make special community visits promoting the PLAY 60 message and importance of community service. In celebration of Hometown Huddle, the Panthers will award PLAY 60 grants to schools and service organizations across North and South Carolina to support youth health and wellness programs, including playground refurbishments, purchase of physical education equipment or interactive fitness installations. Applications will be accepted through September 1 each year.
Located at Romare Bearden Park in Third Ward between Church Street and Mint Street on game days, the Fuel Up to Play 60 Kids Combine - presented by Dairy Farm Families of the Southeast - is a free, interactive area that promotes youth fitness through a variety of football skills and drills for children and their families. Activities include the 40-yard dash, obstacle course, wide receiver/quarterback challenge, and other fun activities designed to get kids moving. The Fuel Up to Play 60 Kids Combine opens two-and-a-half hours prior to game time and closes 30 minutes before kickoff.
The NFL PLAY 60 app allows kids to get 60 minutes of physical activity each day through an interactive running experience that can be played on a smart phone or tablet. The Chicago Bears and American Heart Association (AHA) join forces to present the Bears PLAY 60 Challenge fitness program in area schools each year. The Challenge aims to educate students about staying fit by creating an engaging environment to compel students to be physically active for at least 60 minutes every day - both in school and at home. The school that logs the highest average minutes of physical activity per student over the four-week period is awarded with a visit to their school by a Bears player and Staley. In addition, the schools that finish in the top three receive a PLAY 60 fitness grant from the Bears and AHA.
Hometown Huddle is a day of service in all 32 NFL markets. The Bears support this project locally each year by providing new spaces for children to be active.

After being named a State Ambassador, I had the opportunity to attend the 2016 National Student Ambassador Summit this summer. We learned a lot of ways to incorporate physical activity into our day.
